Introduction to Abhijit Nakshatra
Abhijit Nakshatra is unique among the 27 nakshatras of the zodiac; it can be considered an “invisible star.” According to tradition, the Moon has 27 wives, who are the daughters of Daksha Prajapati and his wife, Panchajani (Virani). Among these sisters, there is one brother: Abhijit Nakshatra. This nakshatra begins at the last quarter of Uttarashada and extends to the first 1/15th segment of Shravana. In Sanskrit, Abhijit refers to Vega, the brightest star in the northern constellation of Lyra.
Abhijit is primarily referenced when determining auspicious timings, or muhurta. Governed by Mahavishnu, Abhijit signifies the direction in which the Sun (and our solar system) is moving through the universe. In the Krishna marga, Abhijit Nakshatra is associated with the west, symbolizing the eye (Chakshyur) of the zodiac.
